Just watched a film titled "Deliver Us from Evil" about three families who's young childern were molested and raped (in one case the mother was also raped) by a Catholic priest named Oliver O'Grady here in California. Instead of coming clean and acknowledging the crime, the church kept moving the rapist priest from one place to another - at one point he was at a church in Turlock where the molestation continued. Of course, this wasn't new to me, I live in California and remember watching the news when it all broke out about the pedophile priests. What I learned was that neither Jesus or the Gospels ever spoke of priests being celibate, and there were numerous popes who were married until sometime in the 4th cent. the church decided to change all of that. The reason being that when a priest or a bishop died, his fortune and lands would all go to his oldest son. With celibate priests, all of their possessions would go to the church after they died. What a fuckin' racket! And the by-product of it being the molesting and raping of young boys and girls! I wonder what my late super-Catholic grandmother would think of this?
