...to put the knock on religion...all you have to do is ask them to prove it...prove the existence of God, not the BELIEF in the existence of God...we all know such beliefs exist and have from way back...but prove the actual God exists. And, of course, they can't do it.

But science CAN prove what it believes...ask a scientist to prove atomic theory and he will, even though the evidence showed up much later than the theory(but that's also the beauty of science. Of course you can ask questions which can't yet be answered, but all that means is that science is a process that builds on previous knowledge, whereas religion says it KNOWS already and for all time and then kills you if you disagree. Or it did when it had the power...before we rational people told them to go take a hike.

Our mistake was in ever thinking they would confine themselves to their churches and private worship...what we understand now is that it isn;t enough to give them religious freedom to practice as they wish, so long as they don;t contradict civil laws, because we are NOT a Theocracy but a liberal democracy. But they will soon come looking for the rest of us...to "save us", which has always been their bloody battle cry.

That was our mistake, because these people can only really "believe" if everyone else does...the fact that you and don't buy into their nonsense means, to them, that it MIGHT be nonsense after all, because here you and I are enjoying life without any need for a God....this hurts them and causes doubt...and that's all this so-called religious revival in America and elsewhere is about: god-people realizing that they are losing...because confined in their churches and especially without the ability to spread their nonsense to children...their numbers have been steadily decreasing....and by wrapping Jesus around politics, especially conservative politics, the religious have gained a temporary advantage...but it won't last and is already breaking down in the face of HUMAN compassion and rationality...we are soon to grant Gay Americans their full civic rights, regardless of what "the people want" or any Church says about it.

Non-believers are winning...and have been for at least 100 years. Religion is losing in the long term (though it plays the part of "spoiler" really well), and that's what counts.
