...someone gave me this book as a way of shutting me up about us not being assyrians...especially the silliness about Syria and Assyria being one and the same...unfortunately he hadn't read it himself....now, I don't care where the gardens were, but I did find it very interesting that this author discussed that infamous tablet found in that town the Assyrians conquered...where, because of a peculiarity in their language, they spelled Assyrian without the initial "A":...BUT, since on that same tablet there is an inscription in Phoenician, wherein Assyria is spelled WITH the initial "A", all this tablet proves is that there existed a small people whose grammar was peculiar and unlike anyone else's...the Assyrians themselves always spelled their name ASSYRIA, and that's all that matters.

If I hadn't read the notes for that chapter I wouldn't have discovered the whole story...I sent an email to the writer asking her about it and never heard back...

To the French we are les Americaines...but Americans don't call THEMSELVES by that name...and it's true that when we see both words, "Americans" and "les Americaines" we know the two words refer to the same people...but this in no way proves that TODAY Syria means the same as Assyria. There is no reason ever given for why we assyrians would adopt the spelling of that small people who got our name wrong,...why would we?

...we didn't.
