...is what comes from a lifetime of blaming other people...whether Arabs or Kurds or Italians or "bad luck". The things dearest to his heart are all beyond his control to influence, hence this bitterness at his own impotence which he takes out on others. The Kurds have done what Jumblat would LIKE to do; they have shown him up for being a weakling and a braggart who can implement none of his dreams...so he blames them for, essentially, beating him to the punch...as if the only reason he doesn't have his Assyria is because there eists in the world something called Kurds, who "took" Assyria from him..as he blames the Arabs for conquering BetNahrain; as if everyone has to stop living in order for Jumblat to get anywhere.

Jumblat is a cripple, unable to function without artificial machines and an army of people smoothing his path, removing all obstacles and providing life-support so he can get somewhere. To salve his self-loathing he dreams up of "obstacles"...of people or events or incidents which are to blame...and when all else is failing him, he plucks the scabs from his wounds, gouges out his own eyes and twists his limbs to justify the fact that he can't be expected to rise up and fight and build and endure as other people, people he "blames" for being healthy or more adept at playing by Life's rules, have done every day of their lives.

Jumblat, like Magpie and Aprim and so many of them, have forced themselves to find their only "strength" in what are demonstrably weaknesses...they never fight for anything...they never build anything...they never learn anything meaningful. Instead they remain insular, as Rita pointed out...they continually review and brood over past defeats and what they perceive as injustice leveled at them by an uncaring world, one that doesn't recognize, as an unkind parent would not, their many fine qualities, so that they force themselves into petulence, whining and clamoring for attention from "the world" for all their supposed harsh treatment suffered at its hands.

Hence complaining takes the place of constructive action...knowledge becomes the enemy because to attain it would mean letting go of myths and fables...wisdom is a threat because to posses it would require them to bid farewell to nine-tenths of their "dreams". Rather stupidity, ignorance, racism, chauvinism, indolence all become the chosen means by which they think Assyria can be gained...that and begging.

Is it any wonder then? Feeling as they do and behaving as they do is it any wonder they hate, as a way of distracting themselves, and others, from the sneaking suspicion that it isn't the world that's at fault but them?
