...the title reminds me of what happened to our people in the early 19th century and thereafter...as Dr Joseph points out, there was an awakening of evangelical fervor at that time in America and Europe such as had never been before...the result was missionaries going forth among our people in the MidEast to pioneer Imperialism under the guise of religious conversion.

...what damns these bastards even more is that they set out to convert Christians to THEIR brand of the same religion....they didn't go trying to convert "heathens" but fellow-Christians...whom they, anyway, regarded as pagans. They all served their home-countries' imperial politics as much as they ever served Jesus.

...Jesus was the pretext then, and he is again.
