I should also mention that from the earliest days and writings, the Nestorians have had mostly Jewish names and only in recent times began using Assyrian names. Jewish names are still common among many of us even today. I also finished reading a book by Dr Richard Rubenstein titled "when Jesus became god, the struggle to define christianity" and the book mainly deals eith the Arian controversy but the author mentions other early Christian sects and how the remains of those in the east almost all embraced Islam immediately. The author, who is a Jew himself, mentions how these long persecuted Christian sects no longer had to fight or argue about the status and nature of Jesus since Islam holds him with same and equal regard as with Moses, Muhammad and the rest of them. Mesopotamia was a refuge destination for many early followers of Jesus who were nothing more than persecuted Jews who fled Roman/Christian rsecution. There were many early sects and by the time of Constantine, 70 were declared heretics and faced persecution. Many fled east and one of those were known as "Paulicians" who were wiped away in the 7th century by Christians. This idea makes much sense and there is no evidence or records of any "Assyrians" converting to Christianity.
