It is true Iran was once a Sunni Muslim nation. From my understanding it was the safavid dynasty that forced shiism on Persia but it's possible and not surprised if British had a hand in it but never heard of it. I noticed when you do hear about ex Muslims, most often times they come from Shiite communities. It's also Shiites who often side with invaders of their own country. When the Mongols were coming to take Baghdad, it was a Shiite whohelped them and he ended up getting killed by them shortly after anyway. I know original and real shiism was really just a party which supported Ali and then things crept in over some time and that's where the idolatry came in. They have pictures of Ali and others and a lot of ways they don't things which is weird to rest of Muslims. They definitely seem to take the whole Mahdi thing more serious than Sunnis. My question was always if this was so important in Islam along with the supposed return of Jesus and the coming of the "dajjal", why are they not in Qur'an? Why only in secondary sources. All Muslims agree Qur'an is foundation of Islam and first source and there is no dispute about it among them yet such important things were not even mentioned. My opinion is that these things didn't come from Muhammad but from Jews and Christians who later came to Islam and brought some of their ideas with them.

Imam Malik was the first scholar to study and compile hadiths and his school of thought is the oldest of all and he made no mention of Mahdi, Jesus return or the dajjal and I find it strange and it's probably just fabricated and came after him but who knows.
