I'm not crazy about Hitchens playing softball with this mushmellon...seems to me more like a promotional tour...kind of like you suspect newsanchors of taking it easy with certain types for fear they won't be able to coax them onto the air again...this Wilson is a gabby lightweight...in fact anymore, anyone who discusses the existence of god, has to be looked at as a lunatic...like we would treat anyone today claiming Thor really does exist. It's the same delusion, only the god has changed...and probably always will, until we stop being afraid of the dark.

Even if religion "worked"...even if it made a more moral world, it would still be wrong and not worth it because of the price it exacts from human intelligence. I can make a child "behave" by scaring the shit of him...or make her "be good" by offering her toys and candy no end...but I stunt their ability to understand...to attain to the much higher, and human, plane of UNDERSTANDINGa basis for morality that is rooted in our humanity, and not in a Jewish handyman.

People can be made good in many ways, at least they will APPEAR to be good and certainly SOUND good....but are they really? There's no shortcut to the real deal....you have to work and work hard, but it also has greater rewards than a Jew carpenter could ever give you.
