-- Hitchens brings up Castro's leaning toward the Soviets but he doesn't mention (or perhaps is ignorant about) CIA director Allen Dulles deliberate plan to push the Cubans toward Moscow just as Dulles (with PR aid from Sigmund Freud's nephew, Edward Bernays) manufactured a lie that Guatemala's Jacobo Arbenz was a "Red", which led to the overthrow of the democratically-elected president and led to a civil war lasting decades and costing thousands of lives. It was this operation in Guatemala 1954 which led a young Argentine doctor (Che) to become a guerrilla revolutionary... and it was Che (and Raul) who were the Marxists among the group. Castro was simply a left-nationalist.
