You welcome, brother...

I just got news that the Shah's youngest son, Ali Reza Pahlavi, died from a self-inflicted gun shot to the head. Apparently, he suffered from extreme deppression caused by being "torn form his homeland", "his father's death", and his "sister's overdose on barbituates". He was 44. Somehow, I don't feel a thing: I'm neither happy nor sad; I don't even know why I'm writing about it. Maybe because in L.A. every Iranian I'm gonna run into is going to ask: "Did you hear about the young prince?" Who gives a fuck? The Pahalavis were planted by the British, and replanted by the Americans -- thanks to Churchill and the Dulles brothers. They siphoned Iran's wealth into their Swiss bank accounts; shared the rest with their family and friends; set up a police state via S.A.V.A.K., which was funded by the CIA and trained by Mossad. Sure, the Shah modernized Iran more than his father and their predecessors, but for whom? Only the wealthy could play in this "modern" landscape of Tehran: full of night clubs, cabarets, red light districts, cinemas, etc. All this opulance, while more than half the population were illiterated, starving, no running water, no hope, no dignity. Of course, they'd find hope in the mosques, what other option had they? Komeini was like Gandhi to them -- and to parts of the intellegenstia who were disillusioned with the "King of Kings". In 1971, the Shah spent millions of $$$ recreating a De Mille-like prcession down Persepolis to annoint himself as descendant of Cyrus the Great. At this affair, he gave Eithiopia's Haile Selassie's dog a diamond necklace worth alomost $100,000. I too, was torn from my homeland,... For whatever Saddam was... at least he didn't run.. he died in his homeland.
