There is a reason why historians are always cautious when dealing with church documents. Take the bible for example. Even the most reliable scholars of the bible such as the late Bruce Metzger are being generous when they say the gospels were written 40 to 120 years after jesus. There is not a single bible scholar or historian who still argues that Moses wrote the first five books, and there is not a single bible scholar who believes the gospels were written by the people they are named after nor does anyone in that field believe the writers were eye witnesses. In the mid 1800s a huge effort was made by christian archaeologists, who were missionaries, to search for anything to confirm their bible. This is when they also began this scam about every christian in the middle east being related to an ancient civilization. They done it in egypt with the copts, it has been done in leanon with the christians being linked to phonecians and then the nestorians in mesopotamia. Racism and prejudice has everything to do with this and it's all done without any proof just as
the bible is no evidence.

These people can never explain with logic what happened to all of the other ancient people who wants existed in Iraq. My roommate is from what was ancient Babylon(hilla) and you can see the ruins from his backyard. The people there, almost all muslims except for few Jews, all call themselves babylonian. Now they haven't gone absurd, make demands, ask for independence, direct descent, etc. It is a fact that there was a babylon and there are people who share that heritage. To say that all of the christians(chaldeans, suryoye, etc) are all direct descendants of ancient assyrians is absurd and lacks logic. The ancient assyrians themselves were not a pure ethnic group as there were various people just like babylon. The chaldeans of today say the nestorians are chaldean too originally, and the nestorians say everyone is assyrian except muslims. The suryoye say everyone is aramean except for muslims but what all these people don't realize is what happened to all of the ancients. They didn't just vanish without a trace. Whatever is left from the ancients is what we have in iraq. They are arabs, muslims, christians, jews, etc. One way or another that's the only logical explanation and all iraqis are proud of ancient iraqi history. It is taught in schools, and museums are full of evidence which all iraqis pride themselves with. To say these nestorians of today are all pure assyrians and only because they speak aramaic, are christian and born in iraq is absurd and has no proof.
