...the nationalist argument goes like this: Saddam tried to change history by claiming that all Iraqis, Muslims included, are heirs to ALL the ancient people of BetNahrain.

..since to our idiots any Muslim is also an Arab, they conclude that since Arabs are from Arabia, from where Islam also came, then any Muslim anywhere is also an Arab, because of his religion and language...therefore no Muslim can be a descendant of the ancient Assyrians....and further, all Muslims, being also "Arab" are foreign to BetNahrain and must return to Arabia, where they all "came from".

...it's such a huge pile of crap that it's hard to get a handle on it.

...it isn't true, of course, that any Muslim in Iraq, or Indonesia, came from Arabia...in fact in Indonesia where you can see very non-MidEast features on the Muslims, they obviously DIDN'T all come from Arabia....in what is Iraq now also people converted to Islam....yes, even most Assyrians converted...it isn't as if converting away from Ashur was unheard of....so why should converting away from Jesus be so hard to imagine?

...using their argument no Christian in Iraq can be a descendant of the Assyrians....since Christianity is a Jewish knock-off and since Aramaic is NOT the language of the Assyrians, our nationalists have to return to either Israel or Syria, the land of the Arameans who gave us and the region their language.

...So, no...no Iraqi Muslim has ever said Ashurbanipal was an Arab....they know the history of the land better than we do because they use actual texts...Saddam never said Iraqi Christians are Arabs...of course the ancient history belongs to all Iraqis, regardless of religion or language.

..and you're right...no historian or history channel is ever going to do a documentary on modern Assyrians because there are NO credible sources, besides Dr. Joseph...and as he told me, "When the State Department wants information on our people, they come to me"...not bragging it's just that he's the only actual historian with any standing on this subject...they certainly don't go to that Finnish guy.
