I don't like wahabbis but I have to come to their defense because it seems like they're just blamed for everything, even things they clearly don't do. For example, wahabbis for the most part are actually none violent and their biggest names like ibn baz of Saudi Arabia issue fatwas all the time against violence. In my own experience with this group, there is a split between those who believe in fighting and the others, which are the majority, who don't believe in overthrowing their government, etc. The Orlando shooter was not a wahabbi or else he wouldn't be in bars and drinking alcohol. Not even Sufis or other traditional Muslims would go to bars, drink etc. He was simply Muslim by name, maybe been to a mosque(so has George Bush) but he was very nominal. Now I was a salafi for a while and it's what I first was exposed to. I quit drinking and smoking overnight. I quit listening to music, hated Shia, stopped watching tv and didn't hang with my old friends no more, and in spite of that, I never thought of ever attacking a gay person.

Now I can't speak for the Orlando shooter but I don't believe wahabbis played a role with him. He would have done it regardless and somebody wanted him to succeed in what he did. Now I don't believe a word from the initial story and the media is only focused on Islam and we now suddenly have invented another religion called "radical Islam". Yes, Islam is opposed to gays, Muslims don't accept gays, but American Muslims don't attack gays in the US. If Muslims were so afraid and against gays, they would all be republicans and they wouldn't come to the west. As hamza yusuf explained on CNN, he doesn't agree with it, his religion does not allow it, but it'snot his position to judge or attack or impose his religion on others and we live in America.

He explained it very beautifully and as he further explained when CNN kept asking him about punishment for homosexuality and he said there isn't one specific for that. It's the same as someone who has sex with others or cheats on spouse and same rules apply with four witnesses which makes it impossible. But all this is irrelevant because Muslims live in America and learn to tolerate. The Orlando shooter was born in America and who knows what really went on but I guess Islam and salafis and radical Islam and whatever else can be blamed by media and the west.
