would it be right to say that the nestorians became jealous of their catholic brethren for being called chaldean and tried to use the name as well? what happened to being "assyrian"? i thought jumblat said they knew all along they were assyrian but cared more for religion than ethnicity. if they were assyrian all along and knew it, why didn't they indicate that? it's obvious what really happened and what really angers me is when they try to be slick by saying "suraya" is equivalent to "aturaya" when it isn't. they try to cover it up by saying this so they can pretend they were assyrian all along and so are the chaldeans and suryoye. if they were assyrian, they would have said it and been aware of it all along and there would be no lost "a" at all. syrian actually means aramean and a person from aram(syria). this is especially so after christianity. jewish sources never use syria for assyria and they distinguish well between the two. the greeks and others may have been confused but they too became aware of it.
