Yeah, that is a good film. It's called The Pianist, I think. The filmmaker, Roman Polanski, survived the camps as a kid, but most of his family, if not all, were liquidated by the Nazis. He made some films in his native Polish: the one which gave him the international recognition he needed to come to the US is called Knife in the Water. Around '68, he leaves Paris for the US and makes Rosmary's Baby, which made him extremly famous in Hollywood. In love with the beautiful Sharon Tate, he begins to experience the lighter side of life, the other side of the camps... until in 1969, while in Europe, he learns that his pregnant wife and some friends were butchered in his home by the Manson family.. He continued to make some amazing films.. Chinatown is another one of his best. But he's been wanted in the US since the late 70s because he's accused of inviting a 13 year-old girl to Jack Nicholson's house, giving her half a quaalude and sodomizing her in the jacuzzi. The girl's mother, an aspiring actress, was trying to get her teenage daughter in to the Hollywood scene for future film opportunities. The girl is now in her 40s, she's forgiven him, but the law hasn't forgotten. His case has alot to do with an incompotent judge who was stretching out the proceedings to get his face on TV and his name in the papers... I don't agree with what Polanski did, but I know a woman who knew the girl's mother and she said the mother basically took her daughter by the hand to Nicholson's house... But, anyway, the Pianist, ironically, won the Oscar for Best Picture, and Polanski, for Best Director that year.. --------------------- |
