Mar Benyamin Shimon was not killed because he was hated.. I think you should read about him first before you pass judgement..

Meaning of Martyr - A person who is put to death or endures great suffering on behalf of any belief, principle, or cause: a martyr to the cause of social justice.

Meaning of Martyred - To make a martyr of, especially to put to death for devotion to religious beliefs.
