Capitalism is a legalized form of slavery. However, the only good thing is that it is like the pyramid schemes you mentioned. I remember in a finance class when I was getting my Master's, the pyramid scheme was described as being unsustainable and they quoted the failure percentage to be in the 90's. Capitalism will be gone, and not because I say so or Marx said so, but because the system cannot survive, it is built on being temporary, it cannot go on, whereas the culture of hitchhiking or decent wages are things that can actually go on indefinitely.
