This reminds me of when members of my family joined many Iranians from around the country on charter flights paid for by the Iranian government to Washington DC for a huge rally which was supposed to show support and solidarity for the Shah...some time back in the late 70s.

My uncle and his 11 year-old son went along. At the rally were thousands of Iranians from all over...they were attacked by men in black clothes with black hoods covering their faces....the crowds ran this way and that...the attackers had sticks with nails hammered through...my uncle and his son and a small group ran into a blind alley....with several men chasing them....at the end my uncle covered his son and waited for the blows...but he managed to rip the hood off of one guy...he was a young blonde, blue-eyed gringo...not an anti-Shah Persian.

I wouldn't be surprised at all....it's happened often enough in the past.
