Most Iranians here are pro-Shah, right wing, and change their names from Ahmad to Henry and adopt a fake christianity to swing with the staus quo. They're the 'Uncle Toms' of Iranians. But to be fair, there are Iranians that I've met, mostly female, who are liberated, open-minded, secular, who don't sway to demonize Iran, but rather know that the current situation transpired as a reaction to the decades of iron-fisted repression, inequality and emasculation of the Persian character by the wealthy "cosmopolitan" classes who stole money from Iran and stuffed it in their Western bank accounts, and supported policies that favored Israel and the West. And whatever Assyrians say, historically, Persians have practiced tolerance when it came to their minorities (Though, I'm sure we can site several massacres), but I'd doubt that so many Jews would still live prosperous lives in Iran (and Christians, too) if Persian culture was not so inclusive and tolerant. I've personally only and soley faced prejudice from my own Assyrian family for being the son of a Persian mother. And for that reason alone I stopped associating with most Assyrians, even my family, until I met you, Pancho and Jeffrey. My Persian blood is tolerant, but my Assyrian blood retaliates when faced with bigotry from Assyrians and whomever else. But overall, I'm a peaceful universalist, accepting of everyone who is accepting of everyone else, and especially decent and protective of the young, the old, the disabled, the voiceless, animals and the natural environment. --------------------- |
