...that's interesting, do they actually pronounce it Shamiram?...I've heard of Shumo...but never Shami. All I have to go by is how people PRONOUNCE the word...and to my ears it isn't pronounced SHAM i RAM...I wish I knew of just one person who said it that way.

It's the same with TARUF and TAROF (Persian); or, MUHAMMAD and MOHAMMAD (Persian). As far as I'm concerned, SHUMIRUM sounds about right.

...I still say that if all you knew about the word was how it sounded....you'd more than likely never spell it with an "a"....as far as compromise maybe we can split the difference and spell it SHAMIRUM....? even though the very thought of compromise is un-assyrian and curls our short-hairs.
