"If you strike at, imprison or kill us, out of our prisons or graves we will still evoke a spirit that will thwart you, and perhaps, raise a force that will destroy you! We defy you! Do your worst!"

-- James Connolly, Socialist Irish leader of the 1916 Easter Rising.

This April 24, 2016 will be the one-hundred anniversary of Ireland's Easter Rising of April 24, 1916 when Irish rebels, among them many socialists, like the Irish leader, James Connolly, fought against their British occupiers and subsequently were crushed by the firepower and manpower of the British Empire. Over the many decades, while the Irish were resisting English rule, numerous Irish-Americans --- one of whom being New York Republican congressman and Islamophobe, James King --- proudly declared their support for the violent Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA-Provos) by sending cash, goods and arms... And yet, when the same or similar scenario regarding Arabs or Muslims is discussed, there seems to be a double-standard. Just as when a white Christian or Jewish person gets attacked or killed, the media spends hours upon hours delving into the lives of the deceased: who the person was, who their family is, what dreams and plans they had which came to null. But when a Black person is shot point-blank or an Arab or Muslim, then they are merely just another statistic, a "thug" or "terrorist", who "hate us for our freedom". When White people rebel and take up arms and engage in terror, they are "heroes" fighting "a good fight" against oppression, but when it's a "darkie"... "fugetaboutit"!
