On more than one occasion when I told a nationalist that the euros revived the assyrian name and gave it to the nestorians, they always ask why assyrians would just accept the name if it wasn't really who they were. But they admit that the catholics invented modern chaldeans and it was accepted. If modern chaldeans accepted a new identity, which wasn't really who they were, why is it hard to accept the same out of the remaining nestorians, and especially after they felt left out and got a little jealous? Bet-shlimon also tried that game with me on here and I told him the same thing. No assyrian nationalist can ever go without constantly telling everyone that modern chaldeans aren't real, they just accepted a name and went with it, and they were invented by the catholics who wanted to divide and rule. Okay, the british also like to divide and rule people, and they have done it throughout the world. If former nestorians can accept the chaldean name, the nestorians can accept the assyrian name and it doesn't matter if it was really theirs or not.

A mar shimun was murdered by his own people for refusing to add "assyrian" to the coe. His successor adopted the name immediately. If they hadn't killed him, the coe wouldn't be called assyrian church of east today. This happened in 1976. Same thing happened in 1914 where the nestorian patriarch was murdered by his own because he was not in favor of joining alliance with the russians and armenians against the turks. He was killed, and his successor joined with the russians and this led to what aprim calls a genocide against assyrians, and he calls it "unprovoked" just as semele is also called the same way. They always mention yukhana sulaqa and the split between nestorians. This much is admitted but they ignore that the same thing happened with them and they accepted the assyrian name when the british revived it and gave it to the nestorians who were living nearby but knew nothing of the ancients other than what every asshole who read the bible already knew.

These peasants were living in historical assyria, reading the bible but they didn't even think to link themselves to the ancients. They even went as far as jumping on the chaldean bandwagon when it first was invented by the catholic church. They thought of ancient chaldeans before they thought of being ancient assyrians. Again, this isn't an opinion but historical fact and from the mouths of nestorians themselves. Aprim can deny it all he wants but it's a fact, and this is why questioning them or challenging them is rude.
