- I wholeheartedly agree, and in addition to that, he had taken positions in the past when he was, or considered himself, a Trotskyist. Rashad mentioned a few stances he had taken regarding Algeria and Vietnam. In the '90s when I first became aware of him in the Nation magazine under the weekly "Minority Report" column, he wrote convincingly and emphatically against the first War of Aggression against Iraq; and along with Chomsky, Parenti, Ali, Cockburn, Blum, and a few others, he wrote and protested vehemently against the ongoing mass murder of about 20,000 Qurdish people in S.E Turkey by the Ankara government with weapons paid for by US tax dollars. What he did was not only sad, but extremely pathetic. Like they say in Hollywood: You are only as good as your last movie... and Hitchens' last "movie" was a complete sell-out, in the worst possible way. He sold out what could, and should have been, a great legacy.
