...boxing is a very apt metaphor....especially when you consider how much of their time is spent giving each other hard-ons about FIGHTING and how one assyrian us worth TEN THOUSAND Turks! But it's all part of the same "identity problem" these people have...which is; they aren't what they like to SAY, even brag, they are. Not assyrian, not related to Ashurbanipal and certainly not anybody's idea of a warrior.

If you really wanted to train a warrior you'd subject him or her to a RIGOROUS course of training, not coddle and shield and protect them...do that and you might as well shoot them yourself, for all the good they'll do when the real battle comes.

But, I fear, the reason Maggie gives is not a truthful one. As you can see by their numbers, Maggie's site, and all the rest, have very few people writing OR reading...she is determined to do all she can to keep as many as she can...and she knows them all well enough to know that if they feel themselves being insulted or mocked, they will take what few marbles they have and go home, or to some home with a more protective atmosphere...that's the real reason she disbanned this guy...someone must have complained to her, in secret of course, that he was getting miffed and didn;t feel "respect and he'd just leave ("if that Turk fires ONE MORE bullet [or word] my way").

Though we average 1000 visits a day, we have only a handful of people writing...and these other dweebs hold it against us...as if we're trying to be popular. Though most haven't the stomach to participate, probably for fear of not being "respected" as they think they deserve...the other 995 come here to READ...to LEARN, at least learn what we have to say...AND we don;t ban anyone or delete or insist on passwords.

As you say, passionate people who hold strong convictions argue with passion and determination and sometimes that spills over into name-calling...but so what? Is this a school of etiquette or a forum? Are we preparing people to serve tea or stand up for themselves? Aaron Burr did more than argue with Hamilton...he shot him dead...in Mark Twain's day irate citizens would go looking for paper editors with shotguns because they felt insulted....we have never gone to such lengths and I doubt anyone at Maggie's would either...so why the fuss?

Maggie is simply afraid that the few people she considers "friendly" will leave if they feel insulted...that's all this is about. She didn't mind the "ding-dong" comment because it was made by a friend of her's with whom she agrees...there's no principle here, no "defense of democracy"...not even a squeamishness about language...she herself has used insults and bad words freely in the past and will do so again..but it's okay because her insults and bad words aren't aimed at her FRIENDS.

...this way "greatness" lies?
