The southern Hindus who have darker complexion, especially the Dalits ("untouchables") face immense repression and daily acts of bigotry and hatred from the northern or I think the western Indians, who are few grades lighter in skin color. So if a Dalit passes across the shadow of a Brahmin, for instance, the Dalit is accused of polluting the essence of the upper caste. In one case when a Dalit drank from a water fountain, it had to be cleansed by rubbing cow dung all over it. My friends go to India a lot. On his last trip, one of my friends said he saw a Hindu man licking the asshole of a cow... giving it a rim-job, I guess for good Karma. That's why BR Ambedkar, who was an Indian jurist, rejected Gandhi and persuaded Dalits to convert to Islam, or Buddhism.
