Christian Amanpour, the noted TV journalist says now that her bosses at CNN, as well as all other leading media sources, were railroaded by FOX into following their lead in the run up to war with Iraq and she hopes that the media will not follow FOX blindly on a course of war with Iran, her home country and where relatives may still live. This is a good example of what happens when you remain quiet as they take your neighbors away one by one...and then come for you, when no one is left to protest.

It was obvious from the start that this thing would not end with Iraq...that Iraqis were not "welcoming" a war or the Americans...but who was bold enough and dedicated to freedom and the rule of law enough to say so....who wanted to be accused of being "soft" on terrorism...who wanted to be singled out as refusing to "spread the benefits" of democracy...who was brave enough to dig deeper or just report fairly...who? Remember how often the reporters would say, almost as if they were told to,,,"So, you like Saddam Hussein"?...whenever anyone dared challenge the rationale or legality or benefits of the war?

Is it really likely that one news source intimidated all the others...? yes and no. The media is owned by only a handful of individuals now...and while they may not agree completely, they see their own interests best served by staying the course....

But intimidation works as well....not outright behind-the-alley stuff...but fear of standing out...or not going along to get along.

Reminds me of a study done in college where five people are shown two parallel lines...one of them one inch long and the other seven inches long...the first four people are in on the study and insist that the two lines are of equal length...the fifth one...hearing the others claim the lines are equal, even though they're separated by six inches...went along with the rest in something like 88% of the time....even with the evidence before his own eyes...but who can go against the tide? Add money from advertising and licensing requirements and the need to keep friends on the inside and maintain circulation and ad revenues and you have corporations and their reporters worried about reporting the obvious...until it's too late.

Iran...here we come.
