Khona Johnny,
You wrote:
"First off, I just today realised that in my message to you yesterday, I quoted from the draft constitution and not the one that was ratified by Iraqis on 15th October 2005 in the referendum. I apologise for the confusion."
Not a problem, brother, it could have been an honest mistake.

"Please allow me to start again. The following articles within the Iraqi constitution, specifically the areas that mention our people, were included as a consequence of Rabi Yonadam Kanna's efforts as the only Assyrian member of the Iraqi constitutional committee:"

Before I read what you wrote below, please allow me to say something: I am NOT against ANY human being, much less an Assyrian. I respect ALL people and value them for their contribution. To that extent, if Kanna did contribute anything to Assyrians and Assyria, I thank him from the bottom of my heart and Alaha Ashur bless him for serving his nation. Having said that, I want you to know that it would be naïve of me to THINK that it was Kanna’s efforts that incorporated certain articles guaranteeing the Assyrians ANYTHING in the Iraqi constitution, in so far as it is a piece of paper that must show a GENERIC regard for all those living in Iraq, not just our people.

“Article 2 - Second: This Constitution guarantees the Islamic identity of the majority of the Iraqi people and guarantees the full religious rights of all individuals to freedom of religious belief and practice such as Christians, Yazedis, and Mandi Sabeans. “

That was also not because of Kanna, but because they have to put such things in a constitution.

“Article 4 - First: The Arabic language and Kurdish language are the two official languages of Iraq. The right of Iraqis to educate their children in their mother tongue, such as Turkmen, Syriac and Armenian, in government educational institutions in accordance with educational guidelines, or in any other language in private educational institutions, is guaranteed. “

That was also not because of Kanna, but because of the fact Americans know there are multiple languages spoken in Iraq.
“Fourth: The Turkmen language and Syriac language are two other official languages in the administrative units in which they represent density of population.”

That also was NOT because of Kanna, but because they know there are certain areas of northern Iraq that are predominantly Assyrians, and they had to compromise to make up for giving Assyrian lands to Kurdistan.

“Article 121: This Constitution shall guarantee the administrative, political, cultural and educational rights for the various nationalities, such as Turkmen, Caldeans, Assyrians and all other components. This will be organized by law. “

If you notice that Kanna had put ChaldoAssyrians in the TAL, but because our people protested and said we are NOT ChaldoAssyrians, they changed it to Chaldeans and Assyrians. So again, this wasn’t because of Kanna, but in spite of Kane!

“I would like to stress that Zowaa managed to reunite our nation as ONE nation through the compound name of ChaldoAssyrians and this was included within the TAL. Unfortunately, however, internal and external forces successfully managed to divide us yet again. That is why we are now legally seen as two separate nations under Article 121.”

Zowaa did NOT unite our people. Kanna made a decision on his own without putting anything to vote and letting the majority decide. This action divided our people more than ever!

“Now let me try to explain how we as Assyrians (or ChaldoAssyrians), through our democratically elected representative in the Iraqi Parliament and the only Assyrian (Christian) in the 27-person constitutional committee, Mr. Yonadam Kanna, will strive to attain our own region: “

Please remember, Kanna is a lame duck in the Iraqi parliament. He will NOT say or do anything, but just sit there and shut up for the next three years he has left. He is a token figure the Iraqi government put there because they have to save face in front of the world, and be able to explain HOW ON EARTH “the new Iraq” did not fill the 10 seats it had to allocate for the minorities, and NO ONE is in those seats. So it gave those 10 seats to minorities, one of which is Kanna because he is the ONLY one who will sit there year after year and shut his mouth. Whereas Jacqueline Zomaya and other outspoken minorities would not be the new Iraqi “puppets”!

“Article 112 states, “The federal system in the Republic of Iraq is made up of a decentralized capital, regions and governorates, and local administrations.” Additionally, Article 118(1) states that, “The governorates shall be made up of number of districts, sub-districts and villages.” Article 121, indicates that certain minorities (ethnic and religious) require exceptional arrangements to fully and equitably realise their rights in a federal Iraq, separate from having representation in districts, sub-districts and villages where they have significant populations. “

And what does this have to do with Kanna? This has to be put there to justify the New Kurdistan, that is all!

“Article 121 mandates the legal entity to be as robust as possible, by constitutionally guaranteeing their “administrative, political, cultural, and educational rights....” Article 112 identifies “local administrations” as a governance authority. Only Article 121 exists in the relevant chapter on local administrations. This further reflects the exceptional status to be given to this entity, in formalising it as an administrative unit. Articles 121, along with 112 and 118(1) exhort Iraqi authorities and key decision-makers to formalise the Nineveh Plains as an administrative unit with powers commensurate to what is stipulated above in Article 121. “

Again, this has nothing to do with Kanna. Kanna DOES NOT represent ANYONE in the north, because he and his party are no longer part of the Kurdish Regional Government, nor do they have ANY authority left in the North. He has NO authority to DO or ask for ANYTHING in Northern Iraq!

“Article 118(2) states, “Governorates that are not incorporated in a region shall be granted broad administrative and financial authorities to enable it to manage its affairs in accordance with the principle of decentralized administration. This will be organized by law.”

This will be organized by law, ONLY if our people pressure Sargis Aghajan to create an administrative region for them, but even then, Assyrians CANNOT create ANYTHING unless it is OPUTSIDE of Kurdistan, thanks to America.

“Now I invite you, our mutual friend Pancho and all genuine Assyrians to work with us and not against us so that we may stand the best possible chance of attaining what we are striving for. We do not have to wait too much longer to clearly see whether the above is what we are truly aiming for within Iraq, through our representative. Should we not at least wait until then before making assumptions?”

Aziza Johnny, Zowaa and Kanna are unfortunately finished in Iraq. Whatever is left of Assyria is in northern Iraq, not central or south Iraq, and therefore, under the Kurdistan regional government authority, PERIOD! Our best chance now is to let Sargis Aghajan feed, clothe, and shelter our people, as he is doing, and let him gain a consensus among our people in Bet Nahrain as to what THEY want for him to do, after all, they are looking up to him as their true representative now.

Kind regards,

Maggie Yonan.
