It is so embarrassing to me when Iraqi Kurds and Arabs come up to me and tell me "my brother, how come Ashurieen hate us so much?" and I can't help it but feel embarrassed and I alwaystry to make excuses. When I was little, my parents used to brainwash me and fill me with hate toward Muslims. They did not like me being friends with the Turks and Arabs in our neighborhood. As I grew up and especially now, I come to notice who really hates who and who is really anti-Assyrian. To me it is sort of a crime for these racist Christians to hide their bigotry behind the name of the ancient Assyrians. It makes everyone else look bad and it is also an insult to paint the ancients as the ancastors of the cowards and chickens. I am a Muslim, and I am proud of the ancient Assyrians and I don't deny my heritage. I identify as "Ashuri" whenever Iraqis or people ask me what I am. I don't use the name exclusively to myself, I don't claim to be pure, direct descendant of Ashur Banipal even though I did when I was a nationalist and I don't use this name to carry out any agendas or attack others.

These nationalists are the biggest enemies to their modern "Assyrian nation" and it is they who are a danger and a disgrace to them. The Iraqi Christians have been living just fine and getting along just find with the rest of the population. No one has ever came to them, killed them or persecuted them because they are Christian or because they claim to be Assyrian. Only ignorant people would take these people serious and actually believe that they are direct descendants of ancient Assyrians. They don't want to be the direct descendants of Arameans, Babylonians or Chaldeans but only pure descendants of the Assyrians. There same people deny the Suryoye and Chaldeans from calling themselves Chaldean, Babylonian or Aramean. It is very obvious that these people were given this name by the Brits for a good purpose and they later ignored them. Today the "heroes" have tried to be clever by using this name in order to hide their bigotry, steal a piece of oil rich land and get other benefits. One would respecr them if they at least were man enough to fight for their "land" but to expect someone to pamper you, hand over land and obey their "demands" is just ridicilous.

Our Chaldean brothers have never been this ignorant or foolish to make silly demands. They instead focused on life, love their country and have always been successful people in Iraq and wherever else they went. The nationalists, on the other hand, pose as direct descendants of ancient Assyrians and turn out to be nothing but a big hoax and an embarrassment to others who are not so. So, if I do not have the right to call myself Assyrian or Ashuri in Arabic because I chose Islam, then the Christian also has no right to use it even though they use it differently or with an agenda to cause trouble. I have no bad intentions and I am not identifying as an "Assyrian" because I am trying to cause trouble but it is the name I got from my parents and why not identify with it? why should I identify as an Arab, Kurd, Turk or whatever else just because I am a Muslim? And why do I have to be an Arab or paid by cia, or Saudi Arabia because I am a Muslim and Assyrian?

If my parents were Chaldean, then I would obviously be calling myself a "ChaldeanMuslim". If I were a Suryoyo, more than likely I be calling myself "AramaeanMuslim". My parents are both from the Church of the East, I speak and understand Surith fluently and I can even read okay. What does one have to have in order to qualify as an "Assyrian" in Fred Aprim's nation? I have no intentions to be part of such nation or people. I do not work against them nor try to hurt them but as a man of honor integrity and a love for honesty, I have an obligation to speak truth and point out the lies. There is a Hotel in Turkey is called "Ashur hotel" or something like that. The owner is a Muslim and at the same time Assyrian. He has always made clear that he is not against anyone but he is proud and devoted to Islam and at the same time proud Assyrian. The truth is that these nationalists are narrow minded, low class and ignorant, therefore, they find it impossible or unbelievable that someone raised with the same prejudices can change or find out what is true rather than be paid by others.

The Saudis, Jews, Arabs, etc are not even thinking about these people. These people are so insignificant that no one hardly knows or even thinks of them. As if people have nothing else to do but be working against them. Who the hell do they even think they are? who would be worried about them or be afraid of them? The Kurds are not working against them nor are they afraid of them but they are rather concerned and wondering why these people who are hiding in Turlock are so racist and have such enmity toward. This is the most embarrassing thing to me when our Kurdish friends who even can speak Surith here in my city approach me and ask me why "Assyrians" hate them so much. They tell me we are brothers, we lived, and eat together, we may speak different language and differ by religion but we are still one brotherhood. I tell them that I am not included in that group because every human being is my friend and brother in humanity unless he chooses not to be. If one is a Muslim, he becomes my brother in Islam and if one is not Muslim then he is still my brother in humanity and I still have to be just and fair to him/her. I can neither abuse him or attack him in anyway but I will defend myself and those who are attacked and I will stand up to those who slander.

All the Kurds that I have met, whether practicing learned Muslims at the mosque, or the more nationalistic types, I have not encountered any trouble with them when I was a Christian and still not now. In fact the only problem I have with them is their ignorance about Islam, and I mean the nationalistic Kurds, and I always tell them that they should not be fighting the Turks, Arabs and others. We should never allow ourselves to become divided by language, color or race. It was Islam which united tribes, nations and people of other colors and it is this worse form of nationalism which makes one enemies to one another. I am not an Arab, even though there is nothing wrong with being Arab nor am I Kurd, Turk or anything else. To be honest, I don't know what my ancastors all mixed with. I know they were calling themselves Suraye, they were Christians who speak Syriac and I know they started calling themselves "Aturaye" about a 100 years ago or less. I call myself Assyrian because this is what I inherited from my parents and I rejected Christianity and the prejudices i inherited. If my beliefs and faith take away my right to identify as "Ashuri" or Assyrian, then the Christian also has no such right because the ancients were not Christian either nor did they accept it.

They neither speak the language of the ancients, they do not follow their culture nor do they follow their religion. Most of all, they can never prove they are direct descendants of the ancients, and, in fact, sane people who hear laugh at them and take them as silly. But no one is afraid of them, no one is paid to work against them and they are the only enemy to themselves. I already said if they gave me all the wealth in the world I would not leave Islam because I believe it to be the the truth and I am convinced. Sure I am not going to lie or make silly claims such as the Christian who speaks to God, seen Him, speaks and sees Mary regularily and other silly stuff but I am convinced about Islam and I believe it was God who guided me to it.

I am not attacking anyone nor do I run or hide from anyone. I fear none but my Creator and no one else. How could I fear my father, mother, uncle, etc when they themselves are born and will die? They are small creatures just like me and they will pass away just like me. They didn't give me life nor can they take my life from except by the will of Allah(swt). I think by now it is clear who works for who, who lies and slanders who, and who is paid and against who.
