We know enough to accept that Akkadian replaced Sumerian...from which we can deduce that Sumerian must have replaced whatever went before it and so on backwards till we get to the first intelligible grunt. It should not be so hard, therefore, to accept that Aramaic replaced Akkadian, which replaced Sumerian, which replaced grunting...and that Aramaic spread among various ethnic groups...as had Akkadian before it and Sumerian before that and grunts before the rest of them.

We know what happened next...Arabic came along and replaced Aramaic and all the rest of them...as the dominant language. All we`ve done is call Aramaic "Assyrian"..to help "prove" that we never disappeared..and if we could manage it, we`d swear Arabic was really Assyrian too...so we could go on forever...even after German becomes the ligua franca of BetNahrain in 3000 AD, at which time we`ll just call German "really Assyrian"...and thus have we discovered the secret to immortality; Lie your damfool head off and keep lying.

Itīs been that easy for us to be Assyrians...all we had to do was make lying our national priority.
