Hitchens and his pals appear to believe that the world is in danger from Islam and that we are doing right by attacking the religion, for our own safety. Does it need to be pointed out that this very nearly the exact same thing Christians said about Jews for 1000 years?

Hitchens says that Islam started its first jihad against America when Jefferson was president by taking American sailors as slaves when their ships got into "Muslim" waters....well, they made slaves of them but in the same way the Old World did, as a result of your losing a war, or being captured...they didn't do as the West would do which was to say that some races DESERVED to be slaves and only slaves. When those American sailors escaped captivity they were no longer slaves...but an African could NEVER escape the color of his skin, or his "blood".

Hitchens fails to remember that Christians attacked an entire continent and enslaved millions, killing millions in the process...isn't THAT some sort of "jihad"?

He seems to believe that Islam declared war on the West...when the opposite is objectively true...the Christians attacked and mandated and ruled those countries...I can't think of a single Christian country Muslims attacked, occupied or stole resources from...not one, in the modern era....From the French in Algeria to the British everywhere else, Christians have been having their way with Muslim countries ever since they felt like it, and more so when they found oil there....when have Muslims done anything even close to that to any Christian country let alone an entire region? When? Where then is the "attack" we have to defend ourselves from?

Yes, Islam is as silly as all the rest...but this isn't about silly religions, it's about the US murdering Muslims for no good cause...and for driving the more radical elements in those countries to acts of desperation and ugliness...but no uglier than what we have been doing to them and without provocation from them...while we have given them ample reason and provocation to want to do ugly things to us and ours.
