One of the best pairs of shoes I had were the German-made Adidas which were incredibly popular among footballers especially after West Germany beat Johan Cruyff and Holland when Gerd Muller scored the winning goal in the '74 World Cup, and then when West Germany beat Czechoslovakia in the Euro Cup in '76. Even though I had outgrown them, I still kept that pair of shoes for another 10 years or so before I gave them to an Armenian kid. Germans make the best cameras, the best camera lenses, the best cars... But American-made goods were also very good back in the days. The whole thing about Chinese-made goods always reminds me of the post September 2001 period when everybody was waving American flags made in China.
